Dear All Pets Rescue,

We lost our beautiful Peke Missy two years ago when she was almost 17 and, when our beloved retriever mix Lucky joined her this past March at 13 years of age, my husband Ron and I were devastated at the loss of our "family". We decided to wait awhile before getting another dog. But it wasn’t long before Ron was sneaking peeks at the Around the Pounds section of the newspaper, and I found myself at the ARL site which brought me to Petfinder. "Just looking" I told myself. Life just wasn’t the same however--no eager barks and furious tail wagging when we came home from work, no one to fuss over, no doggie kisses, no keepaway cookie games, no walks in the woods, no comforting head in our laps. So when Ron said, "I love you honey, but it’s dead around here," I knew it was time.

When I saw Scruffy’s picture and read his bio, I showed Ron and he said, "Go for it." Spurred on by my "dog" friends and the "dog" people at work ("We knew you wouldn’t wait very long!"), Ron and I completed the adoption process and brought Scruffy home from Maine June 17. That day 22 pounds of furry self-confidence and energy bounced through our front door and took over our hearts. Well folks, it’s not dead around here any more!

Scruffy is a marvelous dog--he is curious and inquisitive, intelligent, eager, alert and lots of fun. He has not had an accident in the house and has not chewed anything he is not supposed to. He uses his crate at night, when we are not home, when we cannot keep a really close eye on him, or if he wants to retreat with a toy or his carrot. Scruffy prefers to chew his nylabone sitting close to one of us on the couch (yes he is allowed--we learned the first day he knew his way around a couch very well). Scruffy likes to sit in the bay window and look out at anything passing by -- nothing much escapes him. He flies off the couch when he hears Ron's truck pull in the driveway and loves to go for a ride.

Scruffy is a wild and crazy guy first thing in the morning--he "does his business", then doesn’t know which way to go, sniffing the scents left in the yard by our nocturnal animal visitors. He has at least 1 long walk a day and several short ones, head held high each time unless he has caught a scent he wants to follow. Sometimes he is overeager when he gets a bead on a bird or squirrel 6 houses down the block and doesn’t pay too much attention to my commands to "Heel". Well we are going to Good Manners school at the ARL soon so we both can learn.

Scruff is very well adjusted and we spend a lot of time with him--he has a house full of squeaky toys, nylabones, and a new bed. Our vet proclaimed him inScruffy_HE4.JPG (20279 bytes) wonderful condition and he will receive the best of care with his new family. I am amazed that his previous owners did not have time for him--this is one awesome pooch and it's nice to have some life in the house again!

Thank you All Pets, for helping us bring Scruffy to his new, and forever home. He is a joy with a personality that just doesn’t quit! We will love him always.
